Latest Pickup: Saucony Grid SD Pumpkin Spice

I have to start this post by saying this: I’ve been down on Saucony as a retro brand for some time now. Going back probably two years, the quality had become so bad that even at the $100-120 price point I couldn’t stand it any more. Completely stopped buying pairs from them. Huge glue stains, scratched and inconsistent suede with gashes in the material was happening way too often.

With that out of the way, I have to say I’m pretty blown away by this release. And that’s not to say the bar was set so low that anything would be better than what I had been seeing. This pair is really, really nice. The colorway alone is so vibrant and unique (and of course heavy on the ORANGE) but the materials and construction are also top notch. Suede is consistent from toebox to toebox. Leather is smooth and soft. Stitching is consistent. Shape overall is pretty sharp and not bulbous like we see on so many pairs from a lot of brands these days. Once I got the not so great black and white rope laces out and put in the orange laces it all came together.

Check the pics below for more detailed shots. I’m not ready to say I’m all-in on Saucony quite yet, but with this release and the Wolverine pair I posted previously, it is good see some nice stuff coming from a solid brand.

Please note that all of these pics are taken with an iPhone 6 and only have some minor editing for cropping and lighting. No #kithfilter over here. I also paid for this pair myself so no gifting involved either. Let me know what you think!
